September 4, 2012 « Pink Weekend »
If you've been following this site for a while then you're probably aware of what I'm like with my hair. If not, well ... I change it all the time. I see my hair style as a kind of accessory and like anything you wear every day, there comes a time where you need a change. I just come along these times more often than most.
I've wanted baby pink hair for a while now, more than a year, but knowing the process it would take to get me there, I discarded the idea. It would take bleaching my hair until it was completely stripped, toning it blonde, then putting the pink over the top. I honestly didn't know if hair could survive all that.
It was only when I noticed people I knew going from black to blonde - and doing it themselves - that I started to think of it as a possibility. My Step Mum, who has been my hairdresser since I was ten, and I began deep discussions on the matter and after I promised her I wouldn't be upset if it went terribly wrong and I had to chop it off, she agreed to do it for me.
It took the entire weekend. From Saturday afternoon right through until Monday morning (we obviously stopped to sleep). We went gently to be kinder to my hair, and after going through every colour of the spectrum, we finally got light enough to apply the pink. Today is really the first full day I've had with it and I'm thrilled with it, it's really is amazing. I can't thank my Step Mum enough for being so selfless and generous as to spend so much time on it, I completely owe her.
Today is also the first proper outfit I've worn with it (aside from sweat pants and pajamas), so I went with something simple and neutral to compliment my hair, with a little help from Bambi.
